In this Issue: Two Thoughts about the Fires Terrorizing Maui
My spiritual mentor and friend, Ajaya Sommers, currently living on Maui

Ajaya Sommers - A First Hand Report from Maui
A beautiful invocation from my friend and teacher, Ajaya Sommers, who is living in Maui and reports from her home:
“Nothing in nature lives for itself.
Rivers don't drink their own water.
Trees don't eat their own fruit.
Sun doesn't give heat for itself.
Flowers don't spread fragrance for themselves.
Living for others is the rule of nature. And therein lies the secret of living.
Rejuvenation endlessly, with love.”
Aloha Dear Friends~ Many of you have been reaching out to me directly to see if I am safe from the fires here on Maui, so I thought to write a public post and update.
I am safe and blessed to be at home. It has been a very intense week! But gratefully I live 45 min from Lahaina.
So I’m not in the heart of the apocalypse that has occurred there. We had fires here too as well as Kula and I was asked to evacuate - but I ended up choosing not to and ultimately really did not need to. I have been blessed to be located where I am at this time.
Although the winds and fires have subsided, unprecedented times will continue for the land, the families, the animals, the trees…( everyone is posting about the ancient Banyan tree that burned down in Lahaina- its the oldest and biggest one in the entire USA - but its roots are intact and it will re-grow!)
There is an eerie calm that I felt yesterday and in way inside of every moment of this ‘fire storm.’Even disbelief that things need to become so out of balance and dangerous from the ways we humans have not lived in reciprocity with Mother Earth.
I am listening for the ways I can show up more to be a steward, a worthy child of this magnificent planet. I feel so humbled by this tragedy - it like all tragedy's highlights what is real and what matters most. For me that is to stay grounded in Love and to be an activist of Love.
I believe it is imperative that we each in our own way take time each day to commune with nature and to pray for that “more beautiful world that our hearts know is possible.” To see and to feel this vision of reality emerging inside of the ashes, literally and figuratively.
Prayers require sacred action, boots on the ground, and hands in the Earth to become embodied. Each of us creates the way we respond and contribute.
If you are called to donate to this cause and to help our families and businesses in Lāhainā, Kīhei and Kula you can go here to MAUI STRONG. sic. [link not currently working perhaps because the power’s out, server's are down?]
There are hundreds of people who lost their homes, business’s (as well as loved ones which of course money cannot help) and I’m sure any amount can make a difference to all that needs tending right now.
Thank you for reading this email and grieving this great loss with me. Thank you for your heart, your sacred walk and your precious life! We are in this together!
