Book Club Anyone? Weekend Reading, & Down the Rabbit Hole with a Very Liberal Relative Who See the Sanitization of Kamala, Baron (1R) Trump and Palestine by Joe Sacco 2009

Today my 31 year old step-daughter visited for lunch and actually brought up the assassination attempt (I refer to it as AA in this article). She’s the same one who ghosted us for my lack of critical thinking skills when I dare confront the mainstream narrative about covid in March 2019 when she was living with us, and was aghast that we voted for Trump in 2020. She’s a die-hard liberal Berkeley democrat, and had to spend months away from us tainted folk living in disbelief that we questioned getting her 3rd injection. Well she’s still alive, and thankfully hasn’t had any known side effects - seems very healthy, backpacks most weekends, bikes down big sir, camps, is energetic, has her $100K job with 6 weeks off and nice benefit package while only working about 20 hours/week, etc. Life is charmed and she is a lovely and beautiful being. We have always (aside from those testy months, been very close). So today’s mention of Trump, Kamala, & Old Joe came as a surprise and followed on the heels of her loaning a book to us called Palestine by Joe Sacco. (See below for link to mini-book review.)

The book prompted a serious conversation about the Middle East, in which I told her my thoughts about the engineered state of Israel (about which I wrote in several substacks), my own father’s participation in the ZOA and me attending a ZOA summer session at a Moshav in Askelon Israel when I was 16 and spending a night in an underground bunker waiting for a war to start). I mentioned the Balfour Declaration, NABKA, and other thoughts about the Rothschild and elitists’ reasons for establishing a stronghold in that geographically pristine location, and why some Jewish friends consider us anti-Semetic because we are not zionists.

And then she brought up the assassination attempt. Out of nowhere, she mentioned “that black woman, you know Candace something, who thinks it’s an inside job”. Mentioning that black woman, you know, Candace something - to which I replied Owens, and I realized wait what??? We have some common ground here in which we can converse for the first time since convid. Our girl is getting education by on Tik-Tok (formely from CAL where she was granted a PhD after being a Fullbright Scholar and more — you get the picture), including how Kamala is being whitewashed and sanitized despite her record in CA of incarcerating so many Blacks. She wonders if Biden’s even alive. She’s sure that Melania hates Trump. You can tell the way she looks at him when she thinks the cameras are not on—I disagree, but who knows, and at least we’re talking. She is glad Biden stepped down but now doesn’t know if she’ll even be able to vote if Kamala is the nominee (praise the lord, kinda sorta)….and just when I thought we were getting somewhere she says “I wish Obama were back” — to which I replied, “Honey, He Never Left”. This is Obama’s 3rd term, right here, right now. She didn’t quite know what I was saying. But something sunk in.

I am glad she is following the rabbit hole to find out if this assassination attempt (AA) was staged? An inside job (yes, but by whom)? A coup? I said it’s the UNIPARTY. The bankers don’t take sides, they fund all sides and want their endless wars. I suggested she research Mockingbird Media (Operation Mockingbird), and said that MSM is the mouthpiece of the CIA and she agreed that their whitewashing of Kamala is apparent to her and her leftist friends in Oakland/Berkeley. Hallelujah. I told her that in the recent Congressional hearings about the AA, Cheato said to ask the FBI and a few days later the FBI said to ask the SS.

Together we wondered: who is running the country? It was the first time we had a talk where she didn’t think I was just a bat-shit crazy conspiracy theorist step-mom which she’s thought since I didn’t buy the convid con over the last 4 years. We talked about RFK, Jr. and she ‘hated his voice’. Really? What about his policies, his experience as a litigator and environmental attorney, his brilliant mind, etc. What about Barron Trump? I told her about the book Baron (one R) Trump’s Marvellous Underground Journey which is in the Library of Congress. Notice how AI provides assurance that there’s no connection between this Baron Trump and the current Barron Trump - as if. . . .

The Library of Congress has multiple editions and publications related to Baron Trump’s Marvellous Underground Journey. Here are the notable ones:

• Original 1893 edition: “Baron Trump’s marvellous underground journey” by Ingersoll Lockwood, published by Lee and Shepard in Boston. This book is in the public domain and available as a PDF through the Library of Congress website (https://www.loc.gov/item/44035373/).

• Digitized version: The Library of Congress has a digitized copy of the 1893 edition, which can be accessed online.

Note that there is no mention of a connection between Baron Trump’s Marvellous Underground Journey and President Donald Trump in the Library of Congress’s holdings. The book’s publication predates President Trump’s presidency by over a century.

My aside: Even though the one-R Baron Trump grew up on 5th Avenue in NYC and was mentored by a man named DON (nothing to see here).

And despite that I can’t stand snopes and haven’t visited them in a long time, I wanted to see why they considered this “mostly true”, so paid them a visit to find this:

Today we got to ask Alice N Wonderland a few questions, prompted by the delivery of a book called Palestine, written in 2009 by Joe Sacco which she read in her mostly Leftist Berkeley Intellectuals from the 1990s (GenZ?).

For those who want a so-called “impartial” view of the Palestinian situation, I don’t know if there’s a more fitting account for them than this book by a Maltese-American, non-Arabophone, non-religious, independent journalist. This 295-page book of 9 chapters of comics portrays Joe Sacco’s observations during a two month stay in the West Bank and Gaza in 1991 to 1992. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I started reading; it opens with Joe Sacco escaping the chaos of Cairo to his hotel where he joins two receptionists for tea and their financial and love life woes. Not what I expected! However, this sets the tone of the book which contextualises the political and economic in the everyday. His somewhat irreverent style, spiked with regular humour, irony, self-depreciation, and honesty, allows the reader to set aside preconceptions and just take it in.

As he passes from one family to another, battling checkpoints and curfews, the stories of death, torture, army raids, insufficient facilities and all-round oppression keep on coming until it seems like they will lose meaning altogether. Somehow, though, the repetition of these stories, accompanied by tea, neighbours’ interjections and the beating down of rain on metal roofs, instead produces a gradual deeper realisation that these occurrences are everyday life for many Palestinians. At several points, he also states an opinion only to reconsider a couple of pages later after encountering someone or something new, demonstrating an open-mindedness and humility towards the truth. There were times at the beginning when I was a little taken aback by some of his subtle jokes at the expense of the Palestinians he was speaking to, but eventually I mostly came to appreciate the more rounded picture of Palestinians that this created, rather than a romanticised, one-dimensional “victim” character. Alongside the struggles there also emerges another powerful theme: Palestinian hospitality. Joe Sacco deliberately portrays the bottomless tea, generous meals and the best accommodation available that he receives at every home, whether large furnished house or single room building in a refugee camp. All this comes together to produce an immersive and authentic experience.

Although I didn’t entirely agree with some of the subtext due to Joe Sacco’s different attitude towards religion and there is occasional explicit language to be aware of, I feel this book is a significant contribution to Anglophone literature on Palestine. Not only does it offer a different perspective, it manages to draw the reader in until they are sitting right next to him on that sofa, drinking their fifth cup of sweet tea and wondering where Palestine will go from here. ~ https://booknomadpodcast.com/reviews/palestine-joe-sacco/
